About
Chainsmoker is a cigarette pack opening deckbuilding/drafting roguelike.
Smoke cigs to gain buzz. Sell cigs to afford more packs. Shelf cigs to build powerful synergies that shape your run.
Each day your cravings grow and the buzz quota increases. If you can't meet the day's quota the run ends. Boss days at regular intervals will test your build. Make it to day 13 or continue endlessly and mark your place on the leaderboard.
Over 100 cigarettes (cards) with unique effects, rarities, and permutations. A large pool of lighters to choose from each with their own abilities. Progression between runs allows you to spend points earned or achievements completed during a run to gain permanent upgrades, lighters, and cigarettes.
AI disclaimer: AI-assisted programming tools were used to generate code. Some sound effects were AI-generated. All artwork, game design, and music is human-generated.
How to play
Each run begins with a lighter selection. Choose from 1 of 3 options. Additional lighters can be gained throughout a run. Lighters are never lost during a run.
Anatomy of a cigarette
2. Name
3. Rarity text and type (regular, menthol, cigar, clove, etc.)
4. Smoke action button - click this to smoke the cig
5. Buzz gained from smoking
6. Tar gained from smoking
7. The sell action button and sell value - click this to sell the cig
8. Shelf button and effect description - click this to shelf the cig (if there is room on your shelf)
Note that some effects will name keywords: eventually you will be able to hover of the keywords to read that keyword's definition.
Terminals
There are 4 primary terminals you will need to access throughout a run.
1. The status terminal.
Lung Status = the tar buildup in your lungs. This is effectively your health. If tar gets too high you die and the run ends.
Rips = the number of packs you may open per day.
Puffs = the number of smoke actions you may perform per day.
Cash = your current money (starts at $50 without upgrades)
Luck = a modifier that increases the rarity of cigs pulled per pack and affects chance based effects. Anywhere you'd expect luck to be a factor the luck stat will likely impact.
2. The dispenser.
3. The quota meter.
Displays the current day, the required buzz that must be generated that day, as well as the tier of boss you can expect to match with.
Visit the quota meter after fulfilling your daily buzz quota in order to advance to the next day.
4. The case (where cigs are shelved).
There are additional features and systems that will become apparent with play. Time permitting our goal is to make provide in-game explanations and descriptions for each system, but we hope that most of them will be self-explanatory through regular play.
