About

Panic Balance is an asymmetric survival FPS for up to 9 players per match, plus spectators. One player becomes the Maniac. Everyone else plays the Survivors and tries to live until the final dawn.

SURVIVORS

Mine stone, earn gold, claim a base spot and build it up: walls, towers, housing and research. Invest into your economy, arm yourself and get ready for the night. From day 5 you can start building the Exit. Finish it and survive to win.

THE MANIAC

At night you hunt. Break walls, pick off stragglers and grow stronger with every kill. During the day the Survivors are safe in town, so fight through six creep arenas to earn gold and experience, level up and buy gear. Kill every Survivor before they escape.

Day and night change everything. Daytime is for economy and preparation. Night belongs to the Maniac.

Inspired by a classic Warcraft 3 custom map, rebuilt from scratch as a first person experience.

Honest warning: this is an early playtest build and it has barely been tested. Expect rough edges and bugs. I will be fixing them as fast as I can.

Feel free to leave any feedback, I read all of it. If you hit a bug, please also file a ticket in our Discord (bugs channel) or on this page's forum along with your review, so I can fix it quickly. Balance suggestions and gameplay expansion ideas are very welcome.

Assets and AI disclosure: paid asset packs (Fab, including Tidal Flask Studios) are used under the Fab Standard License. AI tools were used for code and for placing ready-made assets. Pack content was not used to train AI or to generate new content (NoAI compliant).

Updates

2 updates
Version 0.0.3 Towers 2.0: new models, projectiles & explosions New models for all attack towers: rotating tops track the Maniac, the missile battery swivels its launch rack, watchtowers shoot from a bow 13 changes

Added

  • New models for all attack towers: rotating tops track the Maniac, the missile battery swivels its launch rack, watchtowers shoot from a bow
  • Real projectiles: arrows, ice arrows, cast-iron mortar cannonballs and missiles launched right off the rack
  • Cannonballs and missiles can be dodged - damage is dealt by the explosion at the impact point, and mortar shells arc into the ground
  • Explosion effects with fire and smoke, ice trails, missile exhaust flames, muzzle flashes and explosion sounds

Improved

  • Towers now fire only after actually turning to face the target
  • Rain is much denser and splashes are visible twice as far
  • Vegetation renders 1.5x farther
  • Smaller download size

Fixed

  • The Maniac respawns properly after dying (a bug prevented respawn when the Maniac wasn't the host)
  • The Exit can no longer be built before its unlock day
  • Anchor teleport cooldown is now 5 minutes
  • Long skill names no longer get cut off on the skill bar
  • Removed duplicate popup hints
Version 0.0.2 English localization, host game settings, fixes Full English localization - UI, building and research descriptions, in-game messages, and the arena portal. 11 changes

Added

  • Full English localization - UI, building and research descriptions, in-game messages, and the arena portal.
  • Chat notices now appear in each player's own language (RU or EN).
  • Host game settings when creating a match: Survivors to start, Max survivors, Maniac head start, Exit day, Day and Night length, Starting gold, Countdown, and Post-match pause.
  • Rich stone veins out in the open - a big payout per hit, but exposed to the Maniac (risk vs reward).

Improved

  • Download size cut from ~6 GB to ~0.6 GB (trimmed unused high-res textures and assets).
  • Survivors now start with 300 gold - enough for the first investment into the Safe.
  • Merged static scene geometry and other optimizations for smoother performance.
  • Large resource-gather numbers no longer get clipped in the HUD.

Fixed

  • Upgrading a building no longer launches or kills a player standing right next to it.

Removed

  • Leftover sandbox mode and its spawn menu - the game now boots straight into a clean match.
  • Experimental cloud toggles removed from settings (quality presets and TAA remain).
