About

Hold the sky.

The Great War. Two squadrons take off from opposite ends of a sector and close on each other. Just a canvas and wood fighter, weapons that jam and overheat, and whatever speed you carried into the turn. Eight aircraft a side, first squadron to forty-five kills.

Five fronts

Every map was built for this game.

  • Saint-Mihiel, France — September 1918. Open skies over open fields, with plenty of room to climb and dive.
  • The Dolomites — Autumn 1918. The Italian front in the snow. Sharp peaks, narrow valleys, and unforgiving weather.
  • The North Sea. Open water to the horizon, and nowhere to put a damaged machine down.
  • London under blackout — 1917. Night skies over the darkened city, illuminated by searchlights and landmark spires.
  • Wadi Far'a, Palestine — September 1918. Low-altitude dogfights through a desert canyon, flanked by steep cliffs and a railway bridge.

Twenty aircraft, six air services

  • Triplanes, biplanes, a flying boat, and two-seat bombers for Germany, France, Austria-Hungary, Italy, the British Empire, and the Ottoman Empire — each with its own speed, climb rate, durability, and armament. Start with standard fighters on both sides and unlock the rest with francs.

Multiplayer & Solo

  • Up to eight pilots per room, four per squadron, with AI filling the rest of the formation. Players can drop in mid-match, rooms survive host disconnections, and Solo mode lets you take off on a private sortie. Intelligent wingmen and enemies fight alongside you and respond to basic orders.

Flight & Combat

  • Switch between first-person cockpit and third-person chase cameras. Weapons heat and jam under sustained fire, while a tactical display and an original dynamic orchestral score keep you locked into the battle.

Earn francs and experience for every kill, climb forty ranks from Volunteer to Legend of 1918, unlock liveries and painted Lozenge camouflage along the way, and take the sky in your own colours.

I'm a solo developer, so it's tough to fully test multiplayer on my own. If you run into any bugs or issues, please let me know on the forums! :)

Updates

5 updates
Version 1.3 1.3 - Big Update Fly Solo now lets you choose your nation after selecting a map, before takeoff. 22 changes

Added

  • Fly Solo now lets you choose your nation after selecting a map, before takeoff.
  • A new in-flight ESC menu lets you resume, open settings, change teams and return to the hangar. Solo play pauses while the menu is open; team changes take effect on your next normal respawn.
  • Mouse aiming sensitivity can be customized and is saved per player. Settings also include a shortcut to s&box controls.
  • The main menu now links to the game's review page and favourites.

Improved

  • The Dolomites have been rebuilt with geographically based alpine terrain, autumn scenery and residual snow. Combat areas are larger, the topographic minimap has been updated, and spawns follow safer terrain corridors.
  • The North Sea now features the Heligoland and Düne islands, cliffs, beaches, a harbour, buildings and coastal landmarks, with reworked water and lighting. Entry and respawn positions bring pilots closer to the battle.
  • Saint-Mihiel has more ground detail, damp-soil variation and vegetation, with improved lighting at low altitude.
  • Clouds across the available fronts now use varied cumulus, wind-sheared and stratocumulus formations, with lighting that follows the time of day. Up to two temporary clouds can cross the battle area.
  • AI pilots have more stable flight, improved pursuit and defensive manoeuvres, better stall recovery and greater awareness of terrain.
  • AI aiming now accounts for the actual gun positions and bullet trajectories, including gravity and moving targets.
  • AI skill mixes now use a consistent composition for each team's bot count. Skills are preserved through respawns and changes in the number of human pilots.
  • Hangar and lobby interfaces have clearer aircraft information, selection, prices and livery states, with improved scrolling and room-list updates.
  • Cockpit view now relies on the aircraft's physical gunsight, with less HUD clutter while retaining hit feedback.
  • Machine guns now show muzzle flashes at their actual barrel positions and visible barrel heating in the local cockpit.
  • Aircraft damage and crash effects now include progressive smoke, spiralling falls, engine fire, impact effects and debris. Wrecks can continue falling while the pilot respawns.
  • Respawns now take about 2.5 seconds, regardless of altitude, and the camera resets for the new life.
  • Aircraft unlocks have been rebalanced: 14 of the 20 aircraft are free, with one aircraft per nation still unlocked using francs. Eligible purchases of aircraft that became free receive an automatic, one-time refund.
  • Percheron 14 can now be unlocked with francs. Pilots who already earned its previous 250-kill unlock retain access.
  • Flight tips appear less frequently, use gentler transitions and no longer play a notification sound. Tips can be turned on or off in settings.

Fixed

  • North Sea crashes now distinguish water from islands and harbour structures, so sea impacts use water effects and land impacts create ground wreckage.
  • Inactive aircraft templates and wrecks no longer appear as live aircraft in the scoreboard, radar or AI target registry.

Removed

  • London is temporarily unavailable while its rework is underway and will return in a future update.

Added

  • Saint-Mihiel Map Overhaul: Completely rebuilt from the ground up. Fly north of the Meuse River, where scarred no-man's-land and trenches gaze up from below, soar over the historic town of Saint-Mihiel, or engage in dogfights across the winding branches of the river.

Improved

  • Economy Rebalance: Significantly reduced and adjusted the franc cost for all unlockables. Unlocking new aircraft and liveries is now much faster and more rewarding.

Fixed

  • General Polish: Minor bug fixes and performance optimizations across all game modes.

Known issues

  • Aircraft Model Offsets: Aircraft in Dogfight: 1918 use separate modular mesh components. Due to an update issue, certain structural parts may occasionally render slightly offset by a few units. A complete rework of all aircraft models (for both first-person cockpit and third-person chase views) is currently in progress.
