Galaxy Wars RP

In alpha, and made for dedicated servers.

Galaxy Wars RP is a sci-fi roleplay gamemode for s&box. Take a job in a regiment, work your way up its ranks, earn credits, and roleplay with everyone else aboard a galactic battlecruiser.

What's in it

• Regiments, jobs and ranks. A job can put you in a regiment, which gives you its colour, crest, chat channel, spawn points and the doors you can open. Officers promote and demote from the roster and run timed trainings, and some ranks need a training first. Three example regiments and seven example jobs come with it.
• Combat. Weapons come in their own packages: the carbine, scattergun, longrifle and heavy launcher packages are mounted by default, and server owners can add more. Single, burst, charged and beam fire, aiming down sights, magazines and reloads; blades that block, parry and deflect bolts; and throwables you aim along an arc.
• Channel powers. Shove, Lift, Shield and Dash for jobs that can channel, drawing on an energy pool, with an alignment that moves between Order and Chaos.
• Economy. A payday every minute, scaled by your rank, vendors, a 16-slot inventory with a hotbar, a credit chip to pay other players, and an ID card to show them who you are.
• Comms. Local chat that fades with distance, OOC, regiment chat, radio frequencies, whispers, /me and /it actions, and proximity voice.
• Saved progress. Your credits, ranks, trainings, alignment, radio frequency and playtime carry over from one visit to the next.

For server owners

• Change everything in game. The Server Owner panel (L) edits every regiment, rank, training, job, weapon, item, vendor and power, live, without touching code.
• Admin tools. The Admin panel (K) has roles with their own permissions and ranks; kicks, bans, mutes, freezes, warnings, notes and spectating; job whitelists; player reports; and an audit log of every admin action.
• Spawn menu (Q) for props, items and weapons, with a preview you can turn and zoom.
• Packages from sbox.game. Mount a package from inside the game and its models, weapons, items and jobs join straight away. Mounted packages come back at every start.
• Maps. It starts on a battlecruiser with working doors, lifts and buttons. Other maps work too: set up spawn points, vendors, props and regiment door locks in game, saved for each map. Switch maps from the Admin panel.

Running a server

1. Install the s&box dedicated server with Facepunch's Dedicated Servers guide.
2. Start it with sbox-server.exe +game codira.starwarsrp +hostname "Your Server Name". There's no need to name a map: the first start is on the default map, and after that the server starts on the map it last ran.
3. Make yourself superadmin: in the server's folder, create data/codira/starwarsrp/server/bootstrap.json containing { "Superadmins": [ 76561198000000000 ] } with your own 17-digit Steam ID in place of the example, then restart the server.
4. Join, press L to make the content your own, and K to give out roles.

What's next

Galaxy Wars RP is in alpha and actively developed, so expect rough edges and tell us about them in Discord. The roadmap in the pause menu (Esc) has what's planned: awards and medals, ground vehicles, ships and space combat, floating damage numbers, animation graphs for playermodels converted from Garry's Mod, weapon attachments, carry capacities for each job, and special event maps.
