Warring Kingdoms

Warring Kingdoms is a lane-based strategy card game for s&box set during the collapse of China's Han Dynasty.

The empire is falling apart. Corrupt officials cling to power, famine spreads across the countryside, and rival warlords fight over what remains. In Warring Kingdoms, you take control of one of these factions and battle for territory, resources, and ultimately control of the realm.

Unlike many card games, positioning matters just as much as the cards you play. A strong unit in the wrong lane can be useless, while a well-placed one can win the game.

The Battlefield

Each match is a duel between two lords. Both players start with 25 Health and fight across four lanes.

Territory

Before the match begins, each lane is assigned a territory type. Territory determines what units can be played there.

Most units can only be deployed onto territory controlled by their own faction. Neutral territory can be used by Neutral units and targeted by any player's spells.

Controlling the right territory can open up powerful plays. Losing control of key lanes may leave important cards stuck in your hand.

Command

At the start of each turn, you draw a card and gain 1 Command, up to a maximum of 10.

Command is used to play everything in the game, including creatures, spells, and buildings. Deciding how to spend it each turn is one of the core parts of gameplay.

Combat

When your turn ends, units that have been on the battlefield for at least one full turn attack the opposing lane automatically.

Both sides deal damage at the same time, making trades and positioning important. A stronger unit doesn't always survive if it's placed poorly.

Fatigue

A player wins by reducing the opposing lord to 0 Health.

If a match goes long enough for a player to run out of cards, they begin taking damage whenever they attempt to draw from an empty deck.

Combat Traits

Some units have special abilities that change how they fight:

- Charge — Can attack the turn it is played.

- Guard — Protects neighboring lanes by intercepting attacks.

- Retaliate — Deals double damage when striking back.

Factions

The game features over 100 cards split across five factions. Each faction has its own playstyle and Lord Power.

Wei

Led by Cao Cao, Wei focuses on control and card advantage.

Lord Power – Imperial Edict: Draw a card.

Shu

Shu specializes in healing, buffs, and keeping units alive.

Lord Power – Benevolence: Restore 3 Health.

Wu

Wu favors aggressive strategies and direct damage.

Lord Power – River Raid: Deal 1 damage to the enemy lord.

Yellow Turbans

The Yellow Turbans rely on swarming the battlefield with cheap units and sacrifice effects.

Lord Power – Uprising: Summon a Peasant Conscript.

Neutral

Neutral cards can be included in any deck and offer a variety of utility effects.

Deck Building

Decks contain exactly 30 cards and may include up to two copies of any card.

Each deck is built using cards from a single faction along with Neutral cards. Legendary characters from the era, including Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhuge Liang, Lü Bu, Liu Bei, and Cao Cao, appear as powerful cards that can define an entire strategy.

Story Mode

Story Mode follows the early events of the Three Kingdoms period through three chapters.

The Yellow Sky (184 AD)

The Yellow Turban Rebellion spreads across China. Battle through rebel forces led by Bo Cai and Peng Tuo before facing Zhang Jiao.

The Tyrant's Fall (189–192 AD)

Dong Zhuo controls the imperial court while rival warlords compete for influence. The chapter concludes with a battle against Lü Bu.

Fire on the Yangtze (208 AD)

After securing the north, Cao Cao launches a campaign into the south. Defend the Yangtze and take part in the events leading to the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Campaign progress is saved after every battle, so losing a match never forces you to restart an entire chapter.

Collect and Compete

Playing matches rewards War Chests that contain new cards for your collection.

Extra copies beyond the deck limit are automatically converted into Glory, which can be used to craft specific cards.

The in-game Glossary allows players to browse the full card collection, while Daily Missions provide additional rewards for regular play.

Once you've built a deck you're happy with, take it into ranked PvP and test it against other players.
