HEFT

Night shift in a scrap yard. The day shift is still walking, and they want the Core.

You have no gun. You have a hall full of ovens, crates and soda cans.

Your ammo is the furniture.
Forty-one props, each with real physics mass. A soda can chips. A road divider takes nearly half a Brute in one throw and stops its swing mid wind-up.

RECALL is the centre of it.
Throwing empties the floor in front of you. Press R and every loose prop in the cone ahead rips back through whatever is standing in the way: a lane cleared and your hands re-armed in the same second.

Junk is your wall, and it is finite.
The horde shoves a barricade aside rather than pathing around it. Scrappers steal loose props and run for the door. Recall the wall and it is ammunition again.

Four ways to die.
Shamblers, and there are always more. Runners that close the last stretch in one committed lunge. Scrappers that take your ammunition and move faster once laden. Brutes with 340 health and a slam that clears every prop at their feet. Some clock on armed. Every blow is telegraphed, and a heavy prop landed while the arms are up breaks it.

A run is a shift.
Ten waves, six loading doors, one upgrade from three between each. Survive the last and you clock off with the score banked. Or stay on for overtime, where every wave past your shift multiplies what you take home and can also take the lot.

Twenty-two upgrades, three shift modifiers, one to four haulers, full controller support, saved runs and a global leaderboard.

Made for the game jam, and made in code

  • Every sound is generated. No licensed audio and no sample packs: a Python DSP layer synthesises 39 events across 136 takes and 10 music stems, from the contactors banking the hall's lights to the Core coming apart.
  • The cover art is a script. The plate is drawn and blurred in code rather than painted, and the wordmark is polygons rather than type, so the mark owes nothing to an installed font.

Version 1.0.1 Tutor Update Tutorial prompts where you are looking: They sit just under the crosshair on a bigger panel, instead of in small text near the bottom of the screen 5 modifications

Improved

  • Tutorial prompts where you are looking: They sit just under the crosshair on a bigger panel, instead of in small text near the bottom of the screen
  • The grab prompt explains the game: It now reads "GRAB JUNK - IT IS YOUR AMMO" and shows all through prep until you pick something up, instead of only when you happen to look at a prop
  • The throw prompt says what to throw at: "HOLD TO CHARGE - KEEP THEM OFF THE CORE"
  • The recall prompt shows sooner: It appears once a single prop in your aim can come back, where it needed three
  • Tips come back once: Everyone who has already played sees the tutorial prompts again, so returning haulers get the new ones too
Version 1.0.0 Public Release No gun, only furniture: Defend the Core in the middle of the yard with whatever you can lift 21 modifications

Added

  • No gun, only furniture: Defend the Core in the middle of the yard with whatever you can lift
  • 41 props: Each with real physics mass, from a soda can to a road divider
  • RECALL: Rip every loose prop in the cone ahead back through the horde and into your hands
  • Four enemies: Shamblers, Runners that lunge, Scrappers that steal your junk, and Brutes that slam
  • Telegraphed blows: Land a heavy enough hit while their arms are up and the blow breaks
  • A shift of ten waves: Six loading doors, a surge to close every wave, and overtime for a multiplied score
  • 22 upgrades: Pick one of three between waves
  • 3 shift modifiers: Damaged Goods, Rush Hour and Lean Yard
  • Saved shifts: Put a run down and pick it back up later
  • Global leaderboard: Best score across every hauler
  • Co-op for up to four: Tick Open the yard to other haulers on the main menu for a public lobby
  • Revives: Pick up a downed mate before they bleed out
  • Full controller support: Every action and every menu works on a pad
  • Generated sound: 40 sound events across 140 takes and 10 music stems, all synthesised in code
  • Shift menu: Effects and music volume, screen shake and reduced flashing, on Q

Fixed

  • Bulk Delivery gave three times what it promised: It now adds the 3 pieces of junk its card says, where it was adding 9 and could push the yard past its cap
  • Crushing Blow and Deadman's Grip did not say what counts as heavy: Their descriptions now name the 55kg a prop needs
  • The best wave hint read "1 MORE WAVES": It now reads "ONE MORE WAVE MATCHES YOUR BEST"

Known issues

  • If the host leaves during a run, the other haulers do not record that run's stats
  • Bodies occasionally wedge on the racking near one gate and walk back to a door
  • The recall prompt can go a whole run without appearing
